The Weight of Materials

Stone, oak, lime plaster and bronze: materials chosen for how they age, not how they photograph.

A house is photographed once and lived in for decades. We choose materials for the decades.

Natural stone that darkens where hands touch it. White oak that mellows in the sun. Lime plaster that takes light softly at five in the afternoon. Bronze hardware that wears bright at the edges of its patina.

None of these materials are precious. All of them are honest. They show their age the way a good leather chair does: as a record of use, not as damage.

The test we apply is simple. We ask how a material will look in twenty years, not how it looks on delivery day. Many fashionable finishes fail this test within five.

Craft is the second half of the equation. The same stone, set carelessly, is a different material. We work with tradespeople who have spent careers on single materials, and we let their knowledge change the details.
